The whale-watching bay with a path along the water
In October 2019 the World Cetacean Alliance named Hervey Bay the world's first Whale Heritage Site, for the way it runs whale and dolphin watching. Tourism here revolves around the whales in Platypus Bay to the north, the ferries to K'gari (Fraser Island), fishing and boating, and calm north-facing beaches with a wide, undeveloped foreshore.
A 14 km bike and walking path follows that foreshore, which turns a first meeting into a stroll instead of an interview. Sailing, kayaking and snorkelling are all popular on the calm water when you are ready for a second date.
