Profile and first message

Hookup Profile Tips: A Headline, Photos and a First Message

Say what you want plainly, show yourself honestly and keep your surname, workplace and street to yourself.

The short answer

A good hookup profile says what you want in plain words, shows a recent photo of you, gives away little about your life and opens with a question about something on the other person's profile. Be honest, keep it suggestive rather than crude, and follow up once at most.

A headline that says something

You get one line before someone decides whether to read on. Spend it on what you want and one detail that is yours. Suggestive is plenty; crude gets you reported.

No strings, good manners, around on weeknights
What you want, how you behave and when you're around.
Tidy house, tidy manners, untidy weekends
Humour first, then the ask. Suggestive without being crude.
Shift worker, discreet, after something low-key
A real detail makes you a person, and "discreet" sets the tone.

Photos that look like you

Aim for two: a clear, recent face shot and a full-length one, so nobody is surprised when you meet.

Do

  • Use your own photos, with only you in them.
  • Use daylight and skip the filter.
  • Pick shots that aren't also on your social media, as Victoria Police advises.

Skip

  • Anyone else's face. The terms bar it without their permission.
  • Your street, uniform or workplace.
  • A child, in any picture. The terms bar anyone under 18.

The terms let the company use profile photos, usernames and descriptions in its promotional material, so post only what you'd be fine seeing there.

Say what you are after, in plain words

Two or three sentences do it: who you are, what you want and what you don't. Something like this:

Forty-one, on shifts, around most Thursdays and some weekends. After something casual and kind with someone who says what they mean. Condoms every time, no pressure either way.

Say how far you will travel, as the hookups near me page explains, then add a few true interest tags:

  • Private Meets
  • Discreet Meets
  • Massage
  • Video Chat
  • Roleplay

Tags are shorthand, so say the rest yourself. The terms rule out sexually explicit pictures and language beyond what the site allows, and suggestive beats graphic anyway.

Privacy

How much to share

Less than you think.

Other members see a username and your nearest town, which is plenty to start on. Leave out:

  • Your surname, workplace, street and regular pub or gym.
  • Phone numbers, email, social media handles and links.
  • Anything commercial, or asking members for money for services.
  • Complaints about past dates.

The terms ban the first two on a public profile and the third outright.

Three first messages that ask something real

Each picks up a detail from the other person's profile, asks a question only they can answer and says honestly what you want. Borrow the idea, never the words: one message sent to everyone reads as a script.

You said Saturdays belong to the footy. Who do you barrack for? I want something casual and local, so tell me straight if that's not you.

Roleplay and Video Chat are both on your profile. Which would you start with? I'm keen on something low-key and happy to go slowly, so say what you're comfortable with.

Your headline says weeknights only. Is that your roster or your rule? Mine's shifts too, so I get it. If no strings suits you, I'd like to find a night that works.

After you hit send

Whatever happens next, the hookup safety tips cover a first meeting step by step, and how to hook up and hookup etiquette cover the rest.

  • No reply

Wait three days, send one follow-up with a new question, then stop. Silence is an answer too.

  • Nerves

Write it when you are calm, read it aloud once, send it. A short message that goes out beats a perfect one stuck in drafts.

  • A no

A no, or silence, tells you about their week, their wants or their inbox, not your worth. Thank them if they answer, then move on.

  • Meeting up

Once you both know what you want and the chat has run easily for a few days, suggest a public place and a time.

Hookup profile tips: your questions

What should I write in a hookup profile?

Two or three sentences: who you are, what you want and what you don't. Add a headline with one real detail, a few true interest tags and a recent photo. Leave out your surname, workplace and street.

What is a good first message on a hookup site?

One that picks up a detail from their profile and asks about it, plus a line on what you want. Keep it short and polite, and write each one fresh, because a message sent to everyone reads like a script.

How many photos should I use?

Two is enough to start: a clear, recent face shot and a full-length one, both with only you in them. Keep your street, workplace and any child out of the frame.

How long should I wait before following up?

About three days. Send one short message with a new question, and if nothing comes back, move on to the next profile. A third message turns a quiet inbox into a reason to be blocked.
