Lismore Hookups: Lismore Women Want to Meet

Rainforest, arcades and a plan for the weather: casual sex in Lismore and the Northern Rivers.

Check the sky before you pick a time in Lismore

In Lismore the weather has a say in the plan. The city lies on a low floodplain at the meeting of the Wilsons River and Leycester Creek, and the river can rise fast after heavy rain upstream. Levees and flood gates protect the centre in part, but the city flooded in 1974 and 2017, and the flood of 2022 was the worst on record. Look at the forecast, and keep the plan loose.

The town has its own answer to the weather. A run of old shopping arcades, such as the Star Court Arcade from the 1920s, lets you carry on through a subtropical downpour, or a stretch of heat or cold, under cover. Casual sex in Lismore starts the way it does in any city, with a plain message, and the forecast makes a fair second topic. Rainforest remnants of the Big Scrub sit just outside town, and the city centre keeps many of its shopfronts from the late nineteenth and mid twentieth centuries.

Getting to Lismore, and getting home

The region is spread out and runs mostly on cars, so the plan matters more than the place.

  • By car. A 2013 government report found that nine in ten trips in the Northern Rivers were made by car and about one in a hundred by public transport, so most meetings begin with a drive.
  • By coach. Services run from Lismore towards Casino and Brisbane.
  • By local bus. Routes link Lismore with Byron Bay, Kyogle, Ballina, Goonellabah and Nimbin.
  • By air. Rex ended its Sydney service to Lismore Airport with a final flight in June 2022, and air travel for the area now runs through Ballina Byron Gateway Airport, about 34 kilometres east.

Check the operators' timetables before you commit to an evening, and arrange your own way home.

The ages on the site, by state

Here is the age picture for New South Wales, the state Lismore sits in, drawn from our members there. Classic members get a limited number of messages a day, so it pays to spend them on people you could realistically reach, and VIP lifts the limit. The features page lists what each membership level includes.

Rainforest walks within reach

A walk is a calm way to meet someone. Boatharbour Reserve, a pocket of the old Big Scrub rainforest, lies just east of town on the Bangalow road, and Nightcap National Park is the nearest large national park open to the public. In town, the Richmond River Historical Society Museum fills the old Council Chambers of 1928 on Molesworth Street.

Tell a friend which walk you are doing and when you will be back, and run through the hookup safety tips before you set out.

Across the border and down the coast

The nearest places with pages of their own sit mostly in Queensland. The Gold Coast is 91 kilometres north in a straight line, and Brisbane is about 152 kilometres away as the crow flies and closer to 200 by road. Heading south, Coffs Harbour is 166 kilometres off in a straight line. Byron Bay is 46 kilometres north-east of Lismore, and the coast is about 35 kilometres away. Ipswich is 143 kilometres and Toowoomba 191 as the crow flies, so anyone planning to meet in Queensland is planning a day, not an hour.

Lismore hookups: what to know first

Where do I start with hookups near Lismore?

Start by joining and setting Lismore as your nearest town. Your profile shows that town, not your address. Pick the interest tags that fit, such as Short-term Fun or Open to Whatever, and message the people who match what you want.

What happens to a plan if the river rises?

Postpone and rebook. The Wilsons River can rise quickly after heavy rain in its catchment, so check the forecast and the roads on the day, and agree up front that either of you can call it off. A good meeting will keep for a few days.

Is the Gold Coast worth a look from Lismore?

Only if you are happy to travel. The Gold Coast is 91 kilometres north in a straight line, so an evening there takes planning. Put your travel range in your profile, and let people decide whether the drive suits them.

Is there somewhere to wait out the rain in Lismore?

Yes. The old shopping arcades keep you under cover, and the Richmond River Historical Society Museum covers the area's history. The classical revival courthouse of 1883 on Zadoc Street and the Art Nouveau post office of 1897 are worth a look from outside. Stay public, and let someone know the plan.
