Launceston Hookups: Launceston Women Want to Meet

Say what you want and meet on your terms: casual sex in Launceston and the Tamar Valley.

Where two rivers become the Tamar

The North Esk and the South Esk run into each other at Launceston and leave as the Tamar, in a valley ringed by hills. Europeans settled here in March 1806, which makes it one of Australia's oldest cities, and the centre is a low-rise run of Georgian, Victorian and art deco buildings, most of them under five storeys.

Three public places make a first walk easy.

  • Cataract Gorge

Close to the city centre, with a chairlift that crosses the gorge in a single 308 metre span.

  • City Park

Next to the centre, with Albert Hall and an enclosure of Japanese macaques, a gift from sister city Ikeda.

  • Inveresk

The old railway yards, now a cultural precinct with a site of the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery.

The national age picture, with Tasmania in it

We don't draw a separate chart for Tasmania, so these bars show Australia as a whole. That makes them our members across the country, and the 35 to 44 bar is roughly double either of its neighbours while 55 and over is the shortest. Choose Launceston when you join, then say on your profile how far across the island you will go.

Hobart down the road, the mainland over the strait

Hobart is the nearest place we cover, 161 km away in a straight line, while the closest neighbouring city is Devonport, about 99 km to the north-west by road. Bass Strait lies some 45 km north of Launceston, and the mainland places sit beyond it: as the crow flies, Geelong is 437 km away and Melbourne 445 km. Anyone coming over from the mainland will need to plan ahead.

If a chat turns pushy before you have even met, block and report. The safety page explains both.

What to know before meeting in Launceston

How do the four seasons treat a first meeting?

Launceston has four distinct seasons. January and February are the warmest months, while winters are cool and damp with chilly nights and foggy mornings. July is the coldest month, averaging 2.2 to 12.5°C, and snow is rare. Pick an afternoon and carry a layer all year, because the weather can change quickly.

Where do we go if it rains?

Try the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery, which has been going since 1891 and runs two sites, one at Royal Park and one at the Inveresk precinct. Both are public places where you can talk at your own pace and leave whenever you like.

Is Launceston a handy meeting point for the rest of Tasmania?

Launceston is the island's second city after Hobart and a major service centre for the north, which makes it a handy midpoint. State how far you will travel on your profile, and VIP filters let you search by city and how far you will go. The features page lists them.
