Hooking up is one of the most fun things that a human can do. As creatures of nature, we are built for sex. Our entire bodies are geared up to encourage us to reproduce, giving us hormonal and happiness rewards whenever we find someone to hook up with. Modern-day society tells us that we have to hook up with just one person at a time and no more, but infact the body does not care! It wants to have sex with as many people as it possibly can, as many times as it can. Whether it is a one-night stand or a having a regular fuck buddy we can call on, as long as the sex happens, the body will reward us for it.

Sometimes things go wrong when we hook up with someone. This can happen at any time and with anyone. Splitting a condom can be bad, really bad! But there are some quick actions you can take in order to head off things before they get worse. If you have hooked up with a woman or you are a woman hooking up with a man, there is a risk of pregnancy. Unwanted pregnancies are a bad, bad thing. Just be glad you aren’t in America where the recent overturning of the Roe v Wade abortion case means that the ability to abort an unwanted child may not be an option depending on where you are based. The best thing to do is to take the emergency contraceptive pill within three 72 hours (though there are also some that can work up to 120 hours as well). The other option is to have a intrauterine device (also known as a coil) fitted up to 5 days after unprotected sex. It may feel uncomfortable going to your doctor and asking for these things, but I would urge you to do it. Do not take the risk. The difficulty in dealing with the problem afterwards is far worse!

The other risk is that of an STI (sexually transmitted disease). Ideally, you have both been tested recently which will reduce the risks… but regardless it is a good idea to get tested again to be sure. If anything comes up you can then take appropriate action.
